LNH is Lebanon’s open biodiversity platform — a shared space where species records, citizen observations, and conservation information come together in one place. Think of it as a national reference for what lives here, where, and how it’s doing. LNH isn’t government-funded — it’s built independently, by and for the community that cares about Lebanon’s nature.
Every observation submitted adds to a growing, public record of Lebanon’s species — data that researchers, conservation groups, and policymakers can actually use. Over time, this record helps identify which species need protection, where habitats are changing, and where conservation efforts matter most. It also supports Lebanon’s National Biodiversity Strategy (NBSAP 2025) and its commitments under the Convention on Biological Diversity..
Yes, anyone can join, and no background is required for most of what LNH offers. As a Nature Observer, every observation counts, whether you’re an expert or just curious about what you saw on a walk. Our team reviews and validates submissions, so you don’t need to know exactly what you’re looking at, just document it.
LNH has three membership paths:
Visual Contributor — for photographers, illustrators, and artists who want to help bring Lebanon’s species to life visually.
Nature Observer — for anyone who spends time outdoors in Lebanon. Submit geolocated observations anytime, no experience needed.
Field Contributor — for experienced naturalists, biologists, and trained surveyors who want to contribute at a deeper level, including validating observations and leading field activities.
Visual Contributors can submit photographs, illustrations, comics, or short stories inspired by Lebanon’s nature — anything that helps bring our biodiversity to life. Comics and creative writing are featured in our dedicated Comics & Art section, and every piece is credited to you. We understand artists are sometimes hesitant to share environmental work publicly — your work stays credited to you throughout, and it’s used specifically to document and celebrate Lebanon’s biodiversity, not repurposed elsewhere without your knowledge.
Yes — anyone can join. If a specific quest or workshop has requirements (for example, some prior field experience) or limited spots, that’ll be clearly noted under the event itself. We’re still building out our first quests and workshops — stay tuned for what’s coming!
No, LNH is community-built and cost-conscious by design. Donation options are coming soon for anyone who’d like to help support the platform.
Your submission goes into a review queue, where our Field Contributors and experts verify the species identification. Once validated, it becomes part of Lebanon’s biodiversity record.
Not for sensitive or threatened species. Locations for species of conservation concern are masked on any public map or record — researchers or institutions with a legitimate need can request access formally. This protects vulnerable species from disturbance or exploitation while keeping the broader dataset open.
No. LNH is an independent, community-driven initiative. That said, our work is designed to align with and support Lebanon’s national biodiversity commitments (NBSAP, CBD), and we welcome collaboration with government bodies, universities, and NGOs.
